宝箱 是一种可以存放 40 种物品的 收纳物品 (10 x 4 格)。 仅当没有储存物品的时候，宝箱可以使用镐或钻头挖掘。被放置的宝箱下方的物块无法被拆毁。
除了通过制作，有一部分宝箱会在世界生成时出现在地图的随机位置。此类宝箱中的战利品在世界生成时即确定，且不会随着世界进入困难模式而变动.
共有 20 种天然形成的宝箱（其中 15 款无法通过制作获取）和 27 种可制作的宝箱，加上桶和垃圾桶，则一共有 42 种类型的宝箱和 44 种不同的收纳物品（ 梳妆台和可随身携带的收纳物品除外）。
每个世界的收纳物品放置上限为 1000 个 (可携带的收纳物品（例如保险箱、猪猪存钱罐、
护卫熔炉）和陈列物品（例如物品框、武器架、人体模型））除外)。达到上限之后如再试图放置收纳物品，则视为掉落而非放置。
在 电脑版和
主机版验证中，可以为放置的宝箱命名 （20个字符以内）。鼠标悬停在宝箱上可以查看名称；如果宝箱没有被命名，则无文字显示。要命名一个宝箱，首先通过⚷ 打开/激活将其打开。宝箱的默认名字为它的类型名称 （例如，生命木箱的默认名称为“生命木箱”）。选择“Rename”，会出现键盘界面，你可以点击字母或键盘输入新名字。按↵ Enter键或点击"Save"即完成。

Ordinary Chests that occur naturally on the 地表 contain various loot that the player can take and place in their own inventory. Each chest contains a single "rare item" and an assortment of randomly chosen common items.
