機械師是個 NPC，出售各種機械，還有鋼絲鉗和扳手，讓玩家能夠建設和激活連接電路的設備，比如機關和指南:電路#引擎。在擊殺了骷髏王後可以在地牢中洞穴層及更深處找到她，她會隨機以靜止的受縛機械師形態生成，類似於高爾夫球手、哥布林工匠、髮型師、漁夫、館老、和巫師那樣。和她談話會將其釋放，然後只要有空房屋可用她就會重生，哪怕被殺掉。

在 Desktop, Console, Mobile, Switch, and tModLoader上，機械師會攻擊附近的敵怪。她會把她的斗扳 / 扳手像迴旋鏢那樣投擲出去來自衛，在遊戲初期造成 11 / 16 / 19 傷害，並且（在 Desktop version, Console version, Mobile version, and Nintendo Switch version上）隨著玩家推進她會得到各種屬性提升。^[1]在同樣是在 Desktop, Console, Mobile, and Switch中，她死亡時也可能會掉落這件武器。

雖然地牢的最上面一部分可以在打敗骷髏王之前就進入，但機械師只會出現在洞穴深度上，因此，要碰到她總是需要先打敗骷髏王，因為在零深度以下生成的地牢守衛會覆蓋所有地牢生成物。
- 在酒世中，會生成地牢守衛的深度要更深一點，因此有可能在打敗骷髏王前就碰到受縛機械師。

在血月期間，機械師和護士之間似乎有衝突。在這個時候，商人有機率會說：「Oh, great. I can hear <機械師的名字> and <護士的名字> arguing from here.」
機械師暗戀著哥布林工匠，正如她的話語所指。同時，根據哥布林工匠的一些話語判斷，他也同樣暗戀著她。
- 她的快樂度話語「Umm... <哥布林工匠的名字> makes my heart flutter, I need to get that checked!」亦可證明這點
罕見情況下，護士和機械師可能擁有相同的名字，Kayla 或 Amy。這可能導致商人在血月時說：「Oh, great. I can hear Kayla/Amy and Kayla/Amy arguing from here.」
