黑曜石剑鱼有着极高的基础暴击率，为 24%，而非通常的 4%。这不仅让它成为有着最高基础暴击率的近战武器，还让它成为所有游戏中第二高的，和裂天剑并列，仅次于狙击步枪。
Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount.

- Because of the requirements of catching the Obsidian Swordfish are really low it is possible to catch from the start of Hardmode as long as you have lava bait. The Obsidian Swordfish is significantly better than the best Pre-Hardmode spear, Dark Lance.
